1/9/2026 5:00:00 PM

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College has announced Anna Claire Knight as its next Director of Athletics. Knight, a familiar and trusted leader within the Mountain Lions athletics department, brings a strong background in compliance, student-athlete development, and institutional leadership as she steps into the role.

Aaron Bessey was asked to join the advancement team in support of the College's upcoming $56.1 million Comprehensive Campaign.  This campaign advances the goals of the Enchanted Horizons Strategic Plan, with a primary focus on funding the Professional Readiness and Experiential Programs (PREP) and key capital improvements to modernize residential and academic spaces. Aaron's strong relationships with our stakeholders and deep understanding of the Young Harris College community will be instrumental as we move this important initiative forward.

Knight's history with Young Harris College spans nearly a decade and reflects a deep commitment to the institution. She first joined YHC in 2017 as the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach, serving in that role through 2019. Following her time on the court, Knight expanded her experience in higher education by serving as an Academic Advisor at the University of North Georgia from 2019–2021, where she guided students in academic decision-making, career planning, and personal development.

In May 2021, Knight returned to Young Harris College as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance. In this role, she worked closely with coaches and campus partners to ensure adherence to NCAA rules and eligibility standards while supporting the academic success of student-athletes. Her leadership and attention to detail led to her promotion to Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance, where she played a key role in maintaining the department's integrity and fostering a culture of accountability.

A former standout student-athlete, Knight enjoyed an accomplished playing career at Georgia Southern University. She scored 1,319 career points, averaged 11.1 points per game, connected on 103 three-point field goals, and shot 76.5 percent from the free-throw line.

"I want to thank President Wells for the opportunity to lead Young Harris College Athletics," Knight said. "This institution has played a significant role in my professional journey, and I look forward to working alongside our coaches, staff, and student-athletes as we continue to grow and compete with integrity."
