Mountain Lions Battle to a 1-1 Draw at SWU

CENTRAL, SC| Young Harris men's soccer traveled to the home of Southern Wesleyan University today (Oct. 18) for a Conference Carolinas matchup. The Mountain Lions will remain unbeaten, using strong defense to survive the late offensive push from SWU and earn a draw. 

Young Harris now moves to 10-0-2 overall and 9-0-1 in Conference Carolinas while Southern Wesleyan moves to 3-7-2 overall and 1-6-2 in Conference Carolinas. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • Young Harris and Southern Wesleyan battled to a 1-1 draw in a highly physical match that saw ten total yellow cards with eight coming from SWU and two from YH. 

  • Thomas Kleinpenning gave the Mountain Lions the lead in the 55th minute of the match, taking the penalty kick and finding the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. 

  • SWU responded in the 75th minute with Leonardo Flores adding the equalizing goal to tie the match at 1-1. 

  • James Dee got the start in goal for YH and recorded four saves in the match. 

  • YH attempted six corner kicks to three for Southern Wesleyan. 

UP NEXT: The Mountain Lions will return home on Tuesday (Oct. 21) to face off with Mars Hill University on Community Heroes Night.
