Mountain Lions Take Down Carson-Newman University in Home Opener

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College men's soccer team picked up win number one of their 2024 campaign over the Eagles on Sunday (Sept. 8) afternoon in front of the home crowd. Thomas Kleinpenning scored the lone goal in the match, following a spectacular feed from Leho Le Louarn to put YHC up 1-0 over CNU, which ended up being the only strike of the match for either squad.

"We are really starting to see our qualities come out in the 1st half. Our response in the 2nd allowed Carson-Newman to get back into the game," said men's soccer head coach Dean Grey. Continuing, "It is a good win with a clean sheet at home. I was very proud again to see this group's grind and togetherness until the last second." Ending with, "We enjoy it tonight, but our focus now looks to Wednesday at UNG."

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Young Harris came out the gates hot and earned a corner kick in the first five minutes. Charlie Wilde received the corner kick and headed it just above the croscbar.
  • The Mountain Lions scored in the tenth minute. Thomas Kleinpenning received a pass from Leho Le Louarn and launched it past the keeper and into the net to give Young Harris the early 1-0 lead.
  • YHC's Ian Aycock got the start in goal and got the clean sheet. Aycock finished the night with four saves.
  • It was a card party in the enchanted valley with a total of 11 yellow cards and one red card.
  • The Purple and White out shot Carson Newman 14-5 to take home their first victory of the season.
UP NEXT:
