YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | After battling to a 1-all draw through 110 minutes in the Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer Tournament semifinal match Wednesday (April 7) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field, Flagler College advances to Sunday's (April 11) final 6-5 on sudden-dealth penalty kicks.
The No. 3-seeded Saints improved to 4-2-2, while the No. 2-seeded Mountain Lions ended their abbreviated 2020 season at 5-2-2.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Ben Mackay gave Young Harris a 1-0 lead at the 20:29 mark off a Riccardo Sambugaro assist, Sambugaro sent the ball down the left side and Mackay scored from 15 yards out for his second goal.
- Flagler tied the match at 1 on Matteo Costa's equalizer in the 82nd minute. Costa knocked in a loose ball near the left post.
- Young Harris had two excellent chances to win in the second overtime period. Joel Whittingham had a shot from the left side that Flagler goalkeeper Andrea Lubbia stretched out to knock the ball out of play. On the ensuing corner kick, Adam Kirkwood's shot just missed wide.
- In the penality kicks, Flagler, which went first, made its first six tries. Young Harris matched on its first five offerings, before Lubbia made a save to his left on Sambugaro's attempt.
- Young Harris dominated the Saints in shots 17-5 (6-2 on goal).
- The Saints held a 4-2 margin on corner kicks, while YHC was whistled for 28 fouls compared to Flagler's 11.
- Eduardo D'Avino had one save in goal for the Mountain Lions, while Lubba had five for the Saints.
