MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | The No. 5-ranked Young Harris College softball team made the most of its one hit in its season opener against the University of Montevallo Saturday (Feb. 1) evening at the Peeler Complex on the campus of Georgia College.
Morgan Curley's two-run homer to left field in the top of the sixth inning was the difference as the Mountain Lions clipped the Falcons 2-1.
The Mountain Lions improved to 1-0, while the Falcon fell to 0-1. Young Harris will face Shorter University in an 11 a.m. doubleheader Sunday (Feb. 2) to wrap up play at the GC Bobcat Classic.
Emily Harris started the winning rally with one out by reaching on a three-base throwing error by Montevallo third baseman Holly LaForce. Curley followed with her first long ball of the campaign off Montevallo starter Mychael McMillan (0-1), who struck out 11.
Sam Davis (1-0) earned the complete-game effort, allowing an unearned run to go along with three singles and eight strikeouts.
