HARROGATE, Tenn. | Nikkie Kovalsky threw a complete game shutout and
Morgan Curley drove in the lone run for the Young Harris College softball team en route to a 1-0 decision over Lincoln Memorial University in the NCAA Division II Southeast Super Regional Thursday (May 16) at Dorothy G. Neely Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 41-18, while the Railsplitters fell to 38-14. Game two of the Southeast Super Regional starts at 2 p.m. Friday (May 17) with a possible game three at 4:30 p.m.
Kovalsky (27-11) retired nine of the first 11 batters faced before giving up back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the fourth inning.
Maddie Urquiola and
Jill Torres turned a double play and Kovalsky struck out Grace Cochran to keep the shutout intact.
Curley doubled home
Kristan Lizardi in the top of the fifth inning for the first and only run scored on the day for either team. Kovalsky set down nine of the last 11 batters.
Kovalsky gave up four hits with two walks and five strikeouts in the complete game shutout.
Curley tallied one hit and a RBI, while
Grace Botti went 2-for-3.
Emily Harris and Urquiola each collected a hit.
Bailey Griffith (16-8) earned the loss for LMU as she gave up one unearned run on six hits with three strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched.
