FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. | Young Harris College split a non-conference softball doubleheader with Emmanuel (Ga.) College Wednesday (March 27) afternoon.
The Mountain Lions took the opener 6-2 before dropping game two 5-4. Young Harris improved to 19-13, while Emmanuel fell to 15-16. YHC hosts Augusta University in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at noon on Saturday (March 30) at E.D. Rivers Field.
YHC put up two runs in the first inning of game one that started with a double to left field by
Jill Torres.
Grace Botti added the second run of the inning with a single to center field that scored
Carly Rigsbee.
Rigsbee extended the lead to 3-0 for the Mountain Lions with a single to right center in the fifth inning that scored
Morgan Curley. Torres made it a 5-0 game with a two RBI double to right field before Botti added the sixth run with a double to right center that brought Torres home.
Noelle Petty put the Lions on the board in the sixth inning with a two-run homer.
Nikkie Kovalsky (15-8) picked up the win for Young Harris as she allowed two runs on six hits with two walks and eight strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
Torres went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Botti collected two hits and two RBI, while Rigsbee tallied one hit, one RBI, and a run scored.
Emily Harris went 4-for-4 with two runs scored.
Madison Abell (8-7) earned the loss for Emmanuel as she gave up six runs on 11 hits with one walk and one strikeout in 4.1 innings pitched.
The Lions struck first in game two with a two RBI double by Becky Collins in the bottom of the first inning.
Kristan Lizardi put the Mountain Lions on the board in the top of the second with a single to left center that scored Botti.
Emmanuel tallied three more runs in the bottom half of the second to take a 5-1 lead.
Haylie Shope hit her fourth home run of the season for YHC in the third inning. Harris scored after Torres reached on an error in the seventh inning to make it a 5-3 game in favor of Emmanuel. Shope scored after Botti reached on a fielder's choice.
Louisa Disi (3-5) earned the loss for the Mountain Lions as she gave up four runs (two earned) on two hits with one walk in one inning pitched.
Shope tallied one hit, one RBI, and two runs scored. Torres had one hit and a RBI, while Botti had one RBI and a run scored. Lizardi went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Harris,
