Baylee Roche scored twice as Young Harris College recorded a 2-0 non-conference women's soccer victory over Lincoln Memorial University Wednesday (Sept. 5) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 1-1-0 while the Railsplitters fell to 2-1-0. Young Harris returns to action Sunday (Sept. 9) as they host No. 4 University of West Florida in a noon contest at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
Roche connected on her first goal of the season in the 42nd minute after
Miranda Simpson collected the ball on the right side of the field passed the ball to
Madison Putzer, who crossed the ball to Roche in the box. Roche put the ball in the left corner of the net. Roche added an insurance goal at the 80:11 mark to give the Mountain Lions a 2-0 lead.
Maria Guzman played a through ball down the right side of the field that eluded a LMU defender and Roche knocked it in the back right corner of the net.
Pien Van Kampen earned her first shutout of the season for Young Harris as she made seven saves in goal. Ann-Marie O'Connell picked up four saves for Lincoln Memorial. The Railsplitters had a 16-10 advantage on shots, but only a 7-6 margin on goal.
