DAHLONEGA, Ga. | Young Harris College fell to Lander University 6-5 in the Quarterfinals of the Peach Belt Conference softball tournament Friday (May 4) evening at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium.
The Bearcats improved to 32-17 on the season while the Mountain Lions fell to 32-18. The NCAA tournament field will be announced Monday (May 7) at 10 a.m.
Young Harris struck first in the bottom of the first inning with a double down the left field line by
Haylie Shope that scored
Emily Harris.
Lander evened the score at 1 with a single up the middle by Kelli McCormack in the top of the third inning.
Jill Torres gave the Mountain Lions a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the third with a single to left field that scored
Grace Botti.
Brianna Surrento hit a two-run homer to left center to give the Bearcats a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning. Lander added two more runs in the fifth with a two-run single by Halie Sorrow.
Young Harris scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning started with a RBI single up the middle by
Georgia Webb to score
Sara Alderman. After a Botti single to load the bases,
Murphy Davis and Torres each drew a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to even the score.
Lander scored the winning run in the top of the seventh after a single to left field by Surrento.
Ashley Vinson (6-1) picked up the win for the Bearcats as she allowed one hit with one strikeout in 0.2 innings of relief. McKenzi Ferguson picked up her third save as she re-entered to close out the game.
Louise Disi (4-5) earned the loss for the Mountain Lions as she allowed one run on one hit with two walks and one strikeout in two innings pitched.
Davis went 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI. Botti collected two hits and a run scored. Torres had one hit and two RBI. Shope had one hit and a RBI while Webb tallied one hit, a RBI, and one run scored.
