YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College and Tusculum College men's soccer teams traded goals in the first half as they battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw in a non-conference match Wednesday (Sept. 6) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The No. 11 Mountain Lions improved to 2-0-1, while the Pioneers went to 0-1-1. Young Harris hits the road for the first time in 2017 as they face No. 24 Lincoln Memorial University Saturday (Sept. 9) at 3:30 p.m. in Harrogate, Tennessee.
Tusculum struck first in the contest. On a counter attack, Oscar Rubio Jimenez fired a strike from the left side that Young Harris goalkeeper
Alex Iglesias got a hand on, but couldn't corral it in and Ivan Andabak scored his first goal on a rebound at the 21:51 mark.
The Mountain Lions got the equalizer right before halftime.
Alex Jacq crossed the ball in the box from the right side to
Mikie Rowe, who drilled a shot from 15 yards out into the left corner of the net at the 41:53 mark. It was his second goal of 2017.
Young Harris dominated the second half and the overtime periods, holding a 14-4 advantage in shots; however, the Mountain Lions couldn't get the go-ahead goal. YHC had a 21-12 edge on shots and a 10-2 margin in corner kicks.Â
The match was a physical one as 58 fouls were called along with 11 cards being distibuted between the two sides. Tusculum played the final 30 minutes a man down after a player received a red card.
Iglesisas and Tusculum netminder Ivan Safranic each stopped four shots apiece.
