YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College collected 25 hits as the Mountain Lions swept a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader from the University of Montevallo Wednesday (March 30) afternoon at E.D. Rivers Field.

The Mountain Lions, who moved up a spot earlier in the day to No. 18 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division II Top 25 poll, won by scores of 7-2 and 10-6.

Young Harris, which is currently on an eight-game winning streak, improved to 27-9 overall and to 13-3 in the conference. The Mountain Lions return to action at home with a 1 p.m. PBC doubleheader against No. 19 Armstrong State University Saturday (April 2). YHC will honor its four seniors prior to the doubleheader at 12:45 p.m. Montevallo fell to 17-24 and to 3-7.

Montevallo took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third of game one before the Mountain Lions tied the game at 2 in the bottom half of the inning on
Jeanie Perrucci's tripled to left-center field. The Mountain Lions took the lead for good an inning later with three runs.
Rachel Benson drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly while
Hannah Harrison added an RBI single to center. YHC added another run on a Montevallo throwing error.

Sarah Magill added a run-scoring single to right field in the fifth and
Murphy Davis stroked a RBI double to right-center field in the sixth inning as Young Harris took a 7-2 lead.

Young Harris collected 11 hits in the opener. Harrison led the way with three hits, while Perrucci, Davis and Magill had two hits apiece. Davis smacked two doubles while Harrison and
Chandler Stooksbury had one each.

Darby Stanford (20-1) earned the win with a complete-game two hitter. Stanford, who didn't allow a hit after the third inning, struck out five. Jostlyn Higgerson (9-5) took the loss for the Falcons.

Young Harris, which pounded out 14 hits in the nightcap, jumped out to an 8-1 lead after scoring four runs in the second and third innings.
Lindsay Tudor drove in two runs in the second on a single through the right side while Perrucci drove in a run after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Davis added a RBI single.

Davis drove in three more runs an inning later on a bases-clearing single to right field and Perrucci drove in another run on an infield single.

Montevallo battled back with five runs in the fourth and fifth innings to close to within 8-6 before Young Harris added two insurance runs in the sixth. Stooksbury laced an RBI double to center and
Sarah Beth Marquis drove in a run with a bunt single.

Five players – Harrison, Perrucci, Davis, Stooksbury and Tudor – collected two hits apiece for the Mountain Lions.

Perrucci (5-6) picked up the win while Stanford earned her second save of the 2016 campaign with 2 2/3 innings of relief.  Abbey Pratt (3-2) took the loss for Montevallo. Â
