YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College men's soccer team picked up their fourth consecutive shutout as the Mountain Lions defeated the University of Montevallo 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Tuesday (Nov. 1) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions, who are seeded third, improved to 11-6-0 as they won their fifth consecutive match, while the No. 6 seed Falcons entered their 2016 campaign at 11-6-0. Young Harris will face No. 2 seed University of North Georgia, a 3-1 winner over the University of South Carolina Aiken, Friday (Nov. 4) in a 2 p.m. semifinal match at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Georgia. It will also be a Battle of Blood Mountain contest between the cross-mountain rivals. UNG held on for a 3-2 win over Young Harris earlier this season.
Young Harris, which held an 18-8 advantage on shots (11-4 on goal), took a 1-0 lead at the 16:58 mark on
Carlos Gomez's team-leading 11th goal of the season.
Ramin Varnhorn played a through ball to Gomez at the top of the box and Gomez slotted the ball into the right corner of the net.
Varnhorn doubled the lead to 2-0 for the Mountain Lions in the early moments of the second half.
Marco Micaletto crossed the ball from the left side to Varnhorn in the box and Varnhorn headed the ball and it deflected off the crossbar and into the net for his seventh goal at the 50:41 mark.
Macauley King took a pass from
Marlon Montanella and King blasted a shot from the right corner of the box into the left side of the net at the 71:43 mark to give the Mountain Lions a 3-0 lead.

Sebastian Thomsson notched his fourth consecutive shutout as he picked up four saves. Robert Kuta (six) and John Evans (one) combined for seven saves in goal for the Falcons.
