AUGUSTA, Ga. – Georgia Regents University Augusta took a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader from Young Harris College Monday (April 20) afternoon at Jaguar Field.
The Jaguars improved to 31-11 overall and to 17-7 in the Peach Belt after winning game one 7-4 and taking the nightcap 7-2. The Mountain Lions fell to 30-16 and to 13-9. Young Harris will wrap up PBC play Tuesday (April 21) with a 2 p.m. doubleheader at E.D. Rivers Field against No. 7 University of North Georgia.
GRU Augusta opened up a 2-0 lead on a Brooke Stephens two-run double in the first inning of game one against YHC starter Darby Stanford (18-6). Young Harris tied the game at 2 as Sarah Beth Marquis and Lindsay Tudor drew bases-loaded walks in the third.
The Jaguars responded with five runs in the fourth to open a 7-2 lead. The big hit was Hannah Vaughn's bases-clearing triple to right. Young Harris got two runs back in the seventh on Marquis' fifth homer of the season.
Paige Deschaine (15-1) earned the win for GRU Augusta.
Jeanie Perrucci collected two hits for the Mountain Lions in the first game.
YHC took a 1-0 lead in game two on Sarah Magill's RBI double to center field in the first; however, the Jaguars tied the game at 1 in their half of the inning on Mallory Ferguson's single. GRU Augusta took the lead for good an inning later at 2-1 on Molly Walton's RBI single to left.
Haley Birkle (15-8) earned the win while Perrucci (10-8) took the loss.
Sydnee Weaver, Perrucci, Magill, Marquis and Tudor each had a hit in game two for Young Harris.
