YHC rallies in final at-bats to sweep doubleheader from Anderson

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Young Harris College softball team got rallies in their final at-bats as the Mountain Lions swept a non-conference doubleheader from Anderson (S.C.) University Sunday (March 8) afternoon at E.D. Rivers Field.

Young Harris claimed the opener 4-3 on Sydnee Weaver's two-run double in the bottom of the seventh while Chandler Stooksbury's two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth gave the Mountain Lions a 4-2 win in the nightcap.

The Mountain Lions, who now have won three consecutive games in their final at-bat, improved to 13-5 while the Trojans slipped to 15-5. Young Harris return to action Tuesday (March 10) as they start its eight-game spring break road trip with a 1 p.m. Central time doubleheader against the University of West Alabama in Livingston, Alabama.

Young Harris tied the first game at 1 in the opener on Sarah Magill's homer to center field. The Mountain Lions took a 2-1 lead on Magill's solo shot to left field in the fourth inning. Magill has smacked five homers this season.

Anderson retook the lead at 3-2 off YHC starter Darby Stanford (8-1) on Bri Cason's two-run homer to left-center field in the top of the seventh. Lindsay Tudor and Stacia Williams drew walks off Anderson starter Augie Pena (6-1) before Weaver stroked a two-run double to the right-center field gap to give the Mountain Lions the win.

Webb led the Mountain Lions with three hits while Weaver and Magill had two hits apiece.

Young Harris tied game two at 1 in the third on a Webb single to left-center. The Mountain Lions took a 2-1 lead an inning later on a Jeanie Perrucci infield single. The Trojans tied the game at 2 on Molly Child's leadoff homer down the right field line in the sixth off Perrucci (5-2).

It would stay that way until the bottom of the eighth. Using the tiebreaker rules for extra-inning games, Rachel Jarvis, who was pinch running, was placed at second base. Stooksbury followed with a home run - her second of the season - to left field off Anderson starter Lauren Rudesheim (6-3).

Magill and Stooksbury had two hits each in the nightcap for the Mountain Lions.
