Mountain Lions silence Panthers 4-0

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Young Harris College softball team wrapped up play at the Eckerd College Spring Invitational Sunday (Feb. 8) morning  at the Eddie C. Moore Complex with a 4-0 decision over Florida Institute of Technology.

Young Harris improved to 5-2 while the Panthers fell to 5-2. The Mountain Lions will return to action Friday (Feb. 13) as they open play at the Columbus State Cougar Classic with a 3:30 p.m. contest against Florida Tech.

Young Harris jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Lindsay Tudor connected on a two-run homer to right field off FIT starter Rachel Pence (4-1).  Georgia Webb started the rally with a two-out double down the right field line.

The Mountain Lions added two more runs in the third.  Sydnee Weaver led off with an infield single, stole second and came around to score on Sarah Magill's double down the right field line. Sarah Beth Marquis accounted for the other run on her two-out double to left field.

It was more than enough for YHC starter Darby Stanford (4-0). The junior struck out five and scattered six hits over six innings to claim the win.

Magill, Webb and Tudor had two hits each for Young Harris as they collected nine hits.
