Second-half surge leads Young Harris past Emmanuel (Ga.) 4-1

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - Young Harris College scored three second half goals as the Mountain Lions recorded a 4-1 non-conference women's soccer victory over Emmanuel (Ga.) College Thursday (Oct. 16) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 4-8-0 while the Lions fell to 3-9-0. Young Harris returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 18) when they host Georgia Southwestern State University in a 5 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match.

Young Harris opened a 1-0 lead late in the first half. Dani Heald sent in a through ball to Elana Newman in the box and Newman beat the Emmanuel goalkeeper and deposited the ball into the left corner of the net. The Lions tied the match at 1 at the 51:49 match on a strike from Liene Vaciete off a cross from Jessie Denney.

Young Harris regained control of the match when the Mountain Lions took advantage on an own goal by Emmanuel at the 63:01 mark. An Emmanuel defender attempted a pass to their goalkeeper; however, it trickled in the net for the deciding goal.

The Mountain Lions added an insurance goal three minutes later. Dani Pena collected the ball, raced pass the Emmanuel defense and beat the goalkeeper for her third goal of the season. Young Harris took a 4-1 lead at the 75:58 mark on a chip shot by Carly Rich after Newman served the ball into the box.

Young Harris held a 24-7 advantage on shot, include a 14-2 margin on shots that were on frame. The Mountain Lions also had a 7-0 lead on corner kicks. Arielle Charles recorded one save for the Mountain Lions while Breanna Grizzle had 10 for Emmanuel.
