YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Whitney Thomas scored a goal in each half as Young Harris College defeated Carson-Newman University 2-0 in a non-conference women's soccer match Wednesday (Oct. 2) afternoon at the YHC Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions snapped their four-match losing streak and improved to 3-5-0 while the Eagles fell to 2-3-2. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Oct. 5) when they travel to Columbus, Ga., for a 3 p.m. Peach Belt Conference contest against No. 17 Columbus State University.
Thomas, who has scored four goals this season, got the Mountain Lions ahead 1-0 at the 33:13 mark when she got a through ball from teammate Candace Edwards, beat the Carson-Newman goalkeeper and deposited the ball in the right corner of the goal.
Thomas added an insurance goal at the 77:19 mark when she collected a pass from Erica Lowery at the top of the box and shot it into the top corner of the goal.
Young Harris goalkeeper Taylor Erickson recorded her first shutout of the season as she tallied four saves while Tiarna McKenna and Katy Hill combined for three stops for the Eagles.
