AMERICUS, Ga. – Ilija Ilic scored three times and Alex Wyper added two more as the Young Harris College men's soccer team recorded a 5-0 Peach Belt Conference shutout over Georgia Southwestern State University Saturday (Oct. 19) afternoon at Hurricane Field.
The Mountain Lions, who are ranked No. 6 in the country, improved to 11-1-0 overall and to 5-0-0 in the Peach Belt as Young Harris won its ninth consecutive match. Georgia Southwestern fell to 2-8-2 and 0-6-1. Young Harris will travel to Greenwood, S.C., Wednesday (Oct. 23) for a 7 p.m. contest against No. 12 Lander University.
Young Harris, which outshot the Hurricanes 23-4, wasted little time before scoring as Ilic scored an unassisted goal just 2:16 into the match. Wyper made it 2-0 15 minutes later off an assist from Khurram Shazad. llic and Niall McCabe teamed up for the final two scores in the first half for the Mountain Lions. Ilic, who moved into a tie for the lead in the Peach Belt with his 13th goal, took a cross from McCabe, who leads the PBC with 11 assists, at the 23:40 mark. Ilic, who recorded his second career hat trick, headed in a McCabe cross with less than four minutes before halftime.
The Mountain Lions got their final score at the 84:52 mark when Wyper, who has seven goals, converted a penalty kick.
Pedro Ozi stopped one shot for Young Harris as he recorded his PBC-leading sixth shutout of 2013.
