Mars Hill gets past Young Harris 3-1

MARS HILL, N.C. – Mars Hill College scored two first-half goals in a three-minute span en route to a 3-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over Young Harris College Wednesday (Sept. 26) evening at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.

The 17th-ranked Lions improved to 8-1-0 while the No. 10 Mountain Lions fell to 7-2-0. Young Harris, which fell to 2-2-0 against nationally ranked teams this year, returns to action Saturday (Sept. 29) when they travel to Jefferson City, Tenn., for 3 p.m. contest against Carson-Newman College.

Felipe Ferraro scored on an unassisted breakaway at the 12:01 mark to give the Lions a 1-0 advantage they would not relinquish. Three minutes later Shadi Harb scored from 25 yards out on a pass from Alex Mullen.

Harb scored his second goal of the contest at the 52:08 mark to give the Lions a 3-0 edge. The goal was assisted by Ferraro. Young Harris got on the board in the 68th minute when Niall McCabe found the back of the net on a through ball from Lewis Hilton to trim the deficit to 3-1. It was the seventh goal of the season for McCabe. Young Harris played the final 27 minutes of the match with a man advantage after a Mars Hill player was sent off after earning his second yellow card of the match.

Wezly Barnard recorded eight saves in goal for the Mountain Lions while Zac Scott had four for Mars Hill.
