ROME, Ga. – Whitney Thomas and Kelsey Battle each scored as Young Harris College defeated Shorter University 2-1 in a women's soccer match Thursday (Nov. 1) evening at Ben Brady Field.
The Mountain Lions ended the season with a 7-10 record while Shorter fell to 4-12-1. It was the first time in 11 matches that Young Harris had scored twice in a game.
Thomas' fifth goal of 2012 off a
Haley Holderfield assist gave Young Harris a 1-0 lead at the 22:36 mark. The Mountain Lions added an unassisted goal by Battle – her first of the season – at the 59:33 mark to double their lead. Shorter prevented the shutout as Brandi Greenwald scored with 24 seconds left in the match.
Young Harris outshot the Hawks 9-8 while
Taylor Erickson had six saves in goal for the Mountain Lions.
