Young Harris breeze by Hurricanes 4-0

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Ilija Ilic scored twice as Young Harris College defeated Georgia Southwestern State University 4-0 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday (Oct. 13) afternoon at the Frances Wood Wilson Soccer Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 11-2-1 overall and to 3-1-1 in the Peach Belt while the Hurricanes fell to 1-11-1 and 0-7-0. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (Oct. 17) with a 4:30 p.m. Senior Day match against No. 16 Lander University at Wilson Field.

Young Harris scored twice in a two-minute period in the opening minutes of the match to take a 2-0 lead. Andreas Pechmann crossed the ball to Mouhamed Bechir at the far post and he headed the ball in for his third goal of the season at the 4:26 mark. Ilic, who is second on the team with 10 goals, scored off a flick from Khurram Shazad at the 6:18 mark.

Ilic gave the Mountain Lions a 3-0 lead late in the first half. Pechmann served the ball into the ball and Shazad passed the ball to Ilic who sent the ball into the right corner of the goal. Young Harris added an insurance goal by Shazad at the 55:50 mark on a give-and-goal by Ilic. It was Shazad's fourth goal of the season.

Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Bradshaw earned his first shutout for the Mountain Lions as he turned away the only shot he faced while Cade Jones (five) and Ryan Tucker (four) combined for nine saves for the Hurricanes.
