Shazad helps Mountain Lions past RedHawks 3-1

PULASKI, Tenn. – Khurram Shazad scored two goals as the Young Harris College men’s soccer team snapped a three-match losing streak with a 3-1 victory over Martin Methodist College  Wednesday (Sept. 28) evening at the East Campus Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 6-3-0 while the RedHawks slipped to 3-3-0. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Oct. 1) with a 2 p.m. match against Erskine College in Due West, S.C.

Ilijia Ilic scored his team-leading sixth goal at the 13:20 mark for the Mountain Lions. Young Harris doubled its lead to 2-0 as Shazad notched the first of his two goals in the 34th minute.

The RedHawks got a goal back on a strike from Benji Ciosanski in the 64th minute before Shazad responded with his second goal of the match and third of the season off a Sam Walker assist nine minutes later to quell the Martin Methodist threat.

“It was a quality team performance,” said head coach Mark McKeever. “Khurram Shazad was very creative and influential.”
