Mountain Lions upset No. 21 Mars Hill 1-0

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Andreas Pechmann’s penalty kick was the difference as Young Harris College upset Mars Hill College 1-0 in a college men’s soccer match Wednesday (Sept. 14) afternoon at the Frances Wood Wilson Soccer Field.

The Mountain Lions, who are ranked No. 8 in the NSCAA NCAA Division II Southeast Region poll, remained unbeaten at 4-0-0 while the Lions, who are ranked No. 21 nationally in the NSCAA NCAA Division II Top 25 poll, fell to 3-2-0. Young Harris returns to the pitch Saturday (Sept. 17) at 4 p.m. when they host Tusculum College.

Young Harris, which outshot Mars Hill 18-13, got the lone goal on the penalty kick after Niall McCabe was taken down inside the box by Andres Diaz at the 20:14 mark.

The Mountain Lions had two excellent scoring opportunities in the second half as Trevor Monroe has two shots cleared off the goal line by Gregg Munn.

YHC goalkeeper Wezly Barnard notched his first shutout of the season as he turned away six shots.
