YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Jaclyn Kernohan scored four goals while Kaylynn Roach and Ivey Franklin had three scores apiece as the Young Harris College fell to Shorter University 18-10 in a non-conference women's lacrosse match Saturday (April 12) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Hawks improved to 5-7 while the Mountain Lions fell to 1-15. Young Harris returns to action for the final time in 2014 as they will host the University of Tampa in a 4 p.m. contest Wednesday (April 16).
Young Harris took a 1-0 lead on a free-position shot by Kernohan 71 seconds into the match, but the Hawks took control of the match with five unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead on a Katie Ott with 10:12 remaining in the half. Kernohan accounted for two of the final three goals in the first half as Shorter took a 6-3 lead at the intermission.
Shorter opened the second half by scoring six of the first eight goals to open a 12-5 lead in a Rachel Skinner goal with 19:52 to play.
Young Harris won 18 of the draw controls and picked up 25 grounds balls. Kernohan had seven draw controls while Franklin had four and Marisa Martelli had three. Caitlin Pardus tallied two draw controls while Roach and Jade Smith accounted for one each. Smith and Sarah Nudelman each scooped up four ground balls each while Pardus, Roach, Kernohan and Anna Lummus had three each.
Sarah Nudelman recorded 12 saves in goal for the Mountain Lions.
