No. 3 Saints open season with win over Mountain Lions

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – No. 3 Limestone College opened the 2014 women's lacrosse season with a 19-0 win over Young Harris College Saturday (Feb. 15) afternoon at Spartanburg High School.

The Saints, the NCAA Division II runner-up a year ago, improved to 1-0, while the Mountain Lions fell to 0-1. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (Feb. 19) when they host Erskine College in a 3:30 p.m. contest at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Saints ruined the return to Limestone by Young Harris head coach Katie Ilott and assistant coach Rashelle McLellan as the pair were All-Americans during their Limestone playing careers.

Sam McCarrick and Katie Farrell each led the Saints with four goals while Taylor Cline added three. The Saints, which outshot Young Harris 28-1, led 11-0 at the half.

Jaclyn Kernohan recorded the lone shot on the day for Young Harris and produced a game-high tying three ground balls. Equaling the latter mark for the Mountain Lions was Jordana Freitas while Carter Moore had a pair of ground balls. Sarah Nudelman (one) and Moore (three) combined to record four saves between the pipes for the Mountain Lions.
