Young Harris caps magnificent season with 53-36 win over Cowgirls
BAYAMON, Puerto Rico – Kaycee Cash led Young Harris College with 12 points as the Mountain Lions defeated the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon 53-36 in a college women's basketball game Friday (Feb. 24) afternoon at the Complejo Deportivo.
The Mountain Lions ended their season on a 10-game win streak as they improved to 23-3, an 11-game improvement over last season's 11-13 record. The Cowgirls fell to 1-9.
Cash was one of two players in double figures for Young Harris as Peyton Robertson tallied 10 points. Ladondra Johnson added nine points while Keta Robinette and Breanna Gleeson each had six. Arielle Thomas and Johnson grabbed a team-high six rebounds while Shereese Williams had five.
Young Harris jumped out to a 39-24 lead at the half as the Mountain Lions hit 58.3 percent (14-of-24) in the opening 20 minutes. Over the final 20 minutes, Young Harris shooters cooled off as they only hit 18.8 percent (3-of-16) shots; however, the Mountain Lions limited the Cowgirls to 22.7 percent shooting (5-of-22) in the half.
