Mountain Lions extend win streak to nine with victory over Jerezanas

BAYAMON, Puerto Rico – Ladondra Johnson led three players in double figures as Young Harris College defeated the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras 70-53 in a college women's basketball game Thursday (Feb. 23) afternoon at the Complejo Deportivo.

The Mountain Lions won their ninth consecutive game as they improved to 22-3 on the season. The Jerezanas fell to 2-5. Young Harris wraps up its season with a 5 p.m. Atlantic time game against the University of Puerto Rico at Bayamon Friday (Feb. 24).

Johnson led the Mountain Lions with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor. Young Harris shot 53.7 percent (29-of-54) as a team. Peyton Robertson was even deadlier from the floor as she connected on 7-of-9 shots as she scored 16 points.  Breanna Gleeson, who was 3-of-6 from three-point range, finished with 11 points.  Johnson also led the Mountain Lions with seven rebounds while Miata Askew had six and Robertson and Lindsey Hammontree pulled down five. Lauren Smith dished out eight assists and recorded four steals.

Young Harris, which outscored The Jerezanas 42-18 in the paint, broke the game open in the second half as they connected on 60 percent (15-of-25) of its shots from the floor. The Mountain Lions, who only led 33-27 at the intermission, led by as 25 points (68-43) late in the game.
