YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Senior Ryan Ningard's goal with 2.0 seconds remaining gave the Young Harris College men's lacrosse team an 11-10 come-from-behind victory over Reinhardt University Wednesday (April 2) evening on Senior Night at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions won their second consecutive match as they improved to 5-8 while the Eagles fell to 10-2. Young Harris will hit the road for its final two matches of the season, starting with a 7 p.m. match against Huntingdon College next Wednesday (April 9).
Young Harris led 7-4 at the half, but saw five unanswered goals - three with a man advantage - by Reinhardt that gave the Eagles a 10-8 lead on a man-up goal by Jeff Mathis with 7:59 remaining in the match. Matt Spadafora broke the scoring drought of nearly 21 minutes by the Mountain Lions with a goal off a Reed Wilkinson assist 90 seconds later. Eric Fancher tied the match at 10 off a Spadafora assist with 3:17 remaining. It would stay that way until Ningard came around the back of the goal on the left side, weaved through traffic in front of the net and deposited the game-winning goal in the net with 2.0 seconds remaining.
Young Harris won 17 of the 22 faceoffs with Zach Barrett winning 10 and senior Andrew Kim claiming the other seven. Young Harris held a 26-24 advantage in ground balls. Kim led the Mountain Lions with nine ground balls while Barrett had seven.
Senior Bobby Parker earned the win in goal as he recorded eight saves.
Ningard, Kim and Parker were each honored in halftime ceremonies.
