WINTER PARK, Fla. – Jack Dever and Jack Vonarb combined to score seven goals as Rollins College defeated Young Harris College 14-7 Sunday (March 16) afternoon in a men's lacrosse match at the Barker Family Stadium.
The Tars improved to 4-3 while the Mountain Lions fell to 3-7. Young Harris returns to action Friday (March 21) with a 7 p.m. match against Piedmont College at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
Zachary Laird gave the Mountain Lions a 1-0 lead with 1:13 remaining in the first quarter off a Matt Spadafora assist. A Vonarb goal with 25 seconds left tied the match at 1 before a Ryan Ningard strike off a Laird pass gave Young Harris a 2-1 lead 66 seconds into the second half.
Andrew Matthews tied the match at 2 before Spadafora gave the Mountain Lions their final lead of the match at 3-2 with 12:09 remaining in the half. Will Hauver tied the match at 3 with 9:29 left and was the first of seven unanswered goals over the next 12:47 as Rollins opened up a 9-3 lead after Dever, who led the Tars with four goals, scored with 11:42 remaining in the third quarter.
The Mountain Lions scored three of the next four goals as Young Harris closed to within 10-6 after a Ningard goal with 3:43 to play in the third quarter, but the Tars scored the next three goals to thwart the Mountain Lion comeback.
Joe Appolonia and Ningard led Young Harris with two goals each, while Laird, Spadafora and Eric Fancher had a goal apiece. Andrew Kim won five faceoffs for Young Harris while Zac Barrett had two wins. Kim paced the Mountain Lions with six ground balls while Kerry Ostrowski had five. Tanner Shepherdson and Stephen Jordan added three ground balls while Phillip Robertson, Spadafora, Laird and Ryan Pickowitz added two each.
Bobby Parker had 16 saves in goal for Young Harris.
