Mountain Lions open spring break with 8-2 win over Battlers

PHILIPPI, W. Va. – Ryan Ningard scored three times as the Young Harris College men's lacrosse team started their spring break trip with an 8-2 victory over Alderson-Broaddus University Saturday (March 8) afternoon.

The Mountain Lions improved to 2-5 while the Battlers remained winless in five tries. Young Harris continues its road trip with a 7 p.m. contest against Walsh University Monday (March 10) in North Canton, Ohio.

Young Harris led the game from wire to wire. Joe Appolonia scored the Mountain Lions' first goal at the 11:39 mark in the first quarter. Ningard added a score midway through the first quarter before Adam Staniewicz scored off one of three assists by Zachary Laird with 12 minutes left before halftime to give Young Harris a 3-0 lead.

After an Alderson-Broaddus goal, the Mountain Lions, who held a 36-31 advantage in shots, took a 5-1 at the break as Laird and Ningard each added a goal in the second quarter.

A Battler goal 50 seconds into the second half trimmed the lead to 5-2, but Matt Spadafora and Ningard added scores in the third quarter as Young Harris led 7-2. Reed Wilkinson added an insurance goal for the Mountain Lions 42 seconds into the fourth quarter.

Bobby Parker stopped 18 shots in goal for the Mountain Lions.
