Young Harris named Peach Belt's SID Staff of the Year

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. | Young Harris College was awarded the 2018 Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Staff of the Year Award at the league's annual awards dinner on Tuesday night  The award is selected by the league's sports information directors.

Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Communications Michael MacEachern was on hand to receive the award.  

"I'm very humbled to accept this award on behalf of Young Harris College," said MacEachern. "To be recognized by your peers is very special. I would like to thank assistant sports information director Hayden Sharp for all his contributions he has made to the SID office. His addition this year has made an immediate impact and I look forward to what we can accomplish in the future."

MacEachern has served at Young Harris for the past seven seasons as they began the membership with the Peach Belt.  A 30-year veteran, MacEachern had previous experience in the Peach Belt as the SID at the University of South Carolina at Spartanburg (USC Upstate) for eight years.

MacEachern has served as the chair of the SID committee for the past two seasons.  A tireless advocate of his profession, he won the 2011 Clarence 'Ike' Pearson Award for his time in the NAIA and has been a member of the Google Cloud Academic All-America® committee since 1988. beginning as a district coordinator and now serving as co-coordinator of the publicity committee. For his exemplary service on the committee and the promotion of the ideals of being a student-athlete, MacEachern received CoSIDA's Lester Jordan Award in 2015.

In 2017-18, he was the official scorer at the PBC soccer championship, PBC softball tournament and PBC baseball tournament in addition to overseeing the publicity efforts of a growing Young Harris athletic department that reached the NCAA tournaments in men's golf, men's soccer and softball.  Young Harris also hosted a basketball doubleheader that was shown on ESPN3 as a part of the NCAA Division II Basketball Showcase.
