YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. |Â Young Harris College women's basketball coach
Matt Stearsman has announced four early signees for the 2017-18 season.
"These young women embody everything our program stands for," said Stearsman. "They are excellent people, excellent students, and will all contribute immediately on the court. The most important thing that all of these players have in common is that they come from outstanding programs."
Jordan is a 5-foot-9 guard from Harrison High School in Kennesaw, Georgia. Harrison finished the 2016 season with a 23-6 record.
"Avery is a fierce competitor," said Stearsman. "She can really shoot the basketball, but the things she is great at don't show up in a box score. Avery dives on loose balls, makes the right plays with the ball in her hands, gets a lot of deflections and all the other blue-collar things that are very important. Coach Lenahan has turned the Harrison program around because of players like Avery who care more about winning and being a good teammate. She could easily be a 15-20 point per game player, but she is very unselfish."
Edwards is a 5-8 guard from the Wesleyan School in Norcross, Georgia. Edwards has been a part of one GHSAÂ Class AA State Championship team at Wesleyan and two other teams that have finished runner-up.
"Bailey is the ultimate glue kid," said Stearsman. "She is a competitor. She has been coached by one of the most successful coaches in Georgia high school history in Jan Azar. Bailey has gone up against top competition every day at Wesleyan. They have had numerous D1 players and she has probably been a little overshadowed; however, I am expecting her to blossom on the college level."
Dobbs is a 5-7 guard from Buford High School in Buford, Georgia. Dobbs was a part of the 2015 team that captured the GHSA Class AAAAÂ state title.
"Rachel is probably the best shooter I have seen in a while," said Stearsman. "She gives us another threat behind the arc that we need. She will come in ready to play because of the talent she has faced at Buford. I know she has been coached very well by Gene Durden and she is ready for this level."
Diokpara is a 6-1 post from Georgia Highlands College in Rome, Georgia. Diokpara was a freshman in 2016 at Georgia Highlands on their NJCAA National Tournament team that finished the season 26-10. Pamela is currently averaging 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Chargers.
"Pam gives us great athleticism in the post," said Stearsman. "Pam runs and jumps very well and has really benefited from playing for coach Brandon Harrell. We recruited Pam coming out of high school and have watched her grow the past two years in their system. She fits our style and will be a great player for us for the next two years."
Young Harris returns to action Dec. 12 when they travel to Montgomery, Alabama, for a 5:30 p.m. Central time game against Auburn University at Montgomery.
